About

Diana BurrellI’m a Boston-based freelance writer and author who writes for top publications including Parenting, Family Circle, Self, Psychology Today, Writer’s Digest, Oxygen, The Writer, the Boston Globe, and more. My book authoring credits include Psychology Today’s Secrets of Successful Weight Loss (Alpha/Penguin),  The Renegade Writer: A Totally Unconventional Guide to Freelance Writing Success, and The Renegade Writer’s Query Letters That Rock. The Renegade Writer has been so popular, our publisher did a revised edition a few years ago, and now my co-author Linda Formichelli and I are revising Query Letters That Rock for publication in late 2010.

I’m also a popular (and some say entertaining!) speaker at writing conferences. I’ve spoken about everything from my research secrets to my query letter marketing tips at conferences ranging from the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the Chicago Magazine Writers & Editors One-on-One to the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Rhode Island Library Association. I also used to teach classes on freelance writing through community colleges, adult education centers, and the Renegade Writer website.

I’m a serious home chef and avid baker who hasn’t purchased a loaf of grocery store bread in years. When I’m not in the kitchen or at my computer, I can usually be found in my modest garden, tending my crops of heirloom tomatoes or Scotch bonnet peppers. My hobbies and interests include vintage cookbooks, zombies, animal welfare, travel to exotic locales, Anglophilia, and Indian food and culture. I live in the northwest Boston suburbs with my husband, eight-year-old son, and two feisty, rambunctious cats.
